VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The man jailed after a viral video showed him throwing a spinning martial arts-style kick toward a Virginia Beach police officer says he never intended to strike the officer and believes police should not have chased him.
In an exclusive interview with 13News Now from jail, Timothy Allen Wegert said he deliberately missed the officer during the July 5 encounter on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Wegert had previously owned a martial arts practice in the Charlottesville area and had temporarily moved to Virginia Beach for the summer to teach martial arts.
“The anger and hurt, I wanted to let them know that I was being merciful by not knocking him the [expletive] out cold on the sand and then riding past him on the Onewheel,” Wegert said…
