NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Former Virginia Del. Phil Hamilton, who previously served time in federal prison for public corruption charges, is exploring a possible run to be Newport News’ next mayor.
Last week, Hamilton filed a Statement of Organization with the Virginia State Board of Elections to establish a “Friends of Phillip Hamilton” campaign finance account. The account would allow him to start raising money before he officially enters the race. The deadline to file petitions with the registrar for the November 3 election is June 16, 2026.
