Bear spotted near WAVY TV-10 in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A bear, a real bear? Yes, a black bear was spotted just outside of WAVY TV-10 on Friday at around 9:45 p.m.

Just this Thursday, a bear was spotted off Chautauqua Avenue in Portsmouth. The bear was running all over Port Norfolk.

Bear spotted and climbed up tree in Port Norfolk

Three WAVY employees, including myself, walked right outside of WAVY TV-10 on Wythe Street, crossed over, and that’s when the bear appeared onto Harbor Center Way.

We stood on the sidewalk next to the Pavilion and saw a bear dart out into the parking lot.

Then, the bear crossed Harbor Center Way, ran down the sidewalk on Wavy Street, and sprinted to the parking lot of the Portsmouth General District Court building.

If you see this bear, please give it a wide berth and let it pass safely, according to the Portsmouth Police Department’s Facebook page.
