Video shows Chicago officer firing through squad car windshield during ‘exchange of gunfire’ with suspect: COPA

City officials on Wednesday released footage of Chicago police officers shooting a man during an exchange of gunfire after the suspect allegedly shot a woman during a domestic altercation earlier this year. Pierre Davis, 28, a six-time felon on parole, is charged with attempted murder in connection with shooting a woman inside an East Chatham apartment around 7:45 p.m. on January 23.

As officers responding to a domestic disturbance call arrived in a squad car, they spotted Davis walking and followed him into an alley behind the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue, according to a statement from COPA, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. The agency said an exchange of gunfire ensued.

Both officers were still inside their squad car when Davis allegedly shot at them, according to the videos released on Wednesday. Footage from one of the officers’ body cameras shows him firing his gun through the squad car’s windshield at Davis. The officers then exited their vehicle, ran through a vacant lot, and found Davis lying on the pavement in a nearby street. Officials said he received gunshot wounds and was in critical condition.
