A shuttered Chicago firehouse will reopen as a café and event space under a new proposal

A new café and event space will take over a former Chicago firehouse in Rogers Park.

Organizers submitted the project to the city Department of Planning and Development (DPD) in 2025 as part of an open call for proposals to adaptively reuse the property, which has sat vacant since 2009.

The redevelopment will transform the 111-year-old building at 1721-23 W. Greenleaf Ave. into a 2,000-square-foot ground levelcoffeehouse.
