Drivers Keep Running Over Warning Signs At North Side Intersection, But City Plans No Major Changes

IRVING PARK — Jason Thompson lives in fear of crossing the street near his home on Montrose Avenue near Manor Avenue.

That’s even with a special pedestrian island — and signs and other markings — designed to slow drivers at the T-shaped intersection used daily by countless walkers and cyclists going to and from Horner Park.

“People just don’t stop,” said Thompson, who has even had drivers yell obscenities at him when they were upset they had to slow down or stop as he crossed. “And I see drivers slam on their brakes because they’re just not looking for you. You basically have a fear of trying to get across this crosswalk.”…
