O’Hare worker beaten, robbed on Blue Line; suspect caught after police release photos to the public

An eight-time felon is facing robbery charges after Chicago police say he participated in a three-on-one attack aboard a Blue Line train that left a 61-year-old O’Hare employee with serious injuries. In an unusual twist, it’s the second time Lamonte Taylor-Gwin has been charged with a CTA robbery after being identified through a publicly released CPD “seeking to identify” bulletin.

The robbery occurred around 10:50 p.m. on March 2 as the victim rode a Blue Line train home from work at O’Hare Airport, according to prosecutors. He was seated in the middle of the last railcar when three people entered from another car and surrounded him. Prosecutors said the group consisted of Taylor-Gwin, 21-year-old Lerico Pittman, and a 16-year-old girl.

Taylor-Gwin allegedly approached the victim and asked for a cigarette while the girl mumbled something and struck the man in the face. Pittman then grabbed the victim’s bag and sprayed mace directly into his eyes, prosecutors said. The victim immediately felt punches raining down on his head and body from multiple directions.
