Scooter Gunman Turns Austin Block Into Late-Night Crime Scene

A 35-year-old man was wounded Sunday night when, according to police, a gunman riding a scooter rolled up and opened fire in the Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side. Hit by multiple rounds, the man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and listed in fair condition. Chicago police said no one was in custody in the immediate aftermath.

Chicago Sun-Times reports the shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. on the 900 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue. Police told the outlet a male suspect on a scooter fired toward the victim, then sped off before officers arrived. Detectives have not released a suspect description and are canvassing the area for video and witnesses. The Sun-Times notes the wounded man was transported to Mount Sinai, where he was listed in fair condition.
