Indiana troopers find 21 pounds of meth hidden in firepit during traffic stop

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – Two Illinois men are facing drug charges after Indiana State Police said troopers found 21 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside an altered firepit during a traffic stop on I-65.

Troopers pulled over a Ford Escape on Friday, July 31, just after noon after observing the vehicle cross the solid white fog line near the 254 mile-marker. The driver, Kennedy Duran Sanchez, 29, of Chicago, and his passenger, Kevin Duran Sanchez, 27, of Romeoville, were both taken into custody.

Police said both men told troopers they did not speak English, so communication was facilitated using translation software. According to police, both men gave inconsistent travel explanations while showing signs of nervous behavior…
