Bud Billiken Parade will step off for its 97th edition this weekend

Known as the nation’s largest African American parade, Chicago’s Bud Billiken Parade will celebrate its 97th edition Saturday.

Inaugurated in 1929, it is “one of the only spaces” where community members can celebrate African American roots in the South Side of Chicago, according to the parade’s website.

The parade will step off at 10 a.m. from 39th Street and Martin Luther King Drive, going through Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. The parade will then end at Washington Park, followed by an annual Back-to-School Festival…
