In an increasingly rare bipartisan act, the Morgan County Commission declined Wednesday to put a resolution on the ballot that would signal a desire to separate from Cook County.
Had the item been added to the Nov. 3 ballot, Morgan County voters would have been asked a non-binding, advisory question about whether Morgan County Commission should “correspond with the boards of the other counties of Illinois outside of Cook County about the possibility of separating from Cook County to form a new state?”
Adding it to the ballot wouldn’t have meant a vote could see Morgan County becoming part of a new state. Such a separation would have to be approved by both the state legislature and U.S. Congress…
