The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office says it has successfully identified 22 sets of human remains that were found at a Chicago funeral home earlier this month.
Those remains were among dozens that were found in “various states of decomposition” by authorities after they received a complaint from Illinois officials, who were investigating allegations the South Chicago Chapel was not properly storing bodies at its facility.
In all, 22 of the 56 sets of human remains recovered from the chapel have been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Of those, 18 families have been notified, and three individuals’ remains have been sent to local funeral homes for services and burial…
