‘We are in need’: South suburban leaders call for federal help after devastating storms

LANSING, Ill. (WGN) — Leaders from several south suburbs hit hard by recent storms are coming together to call for federal help as residents face a long road to recovery.

On Sunday, elected officials from communities battered by tornadoes, damaging winds and flooding stood together with one message for the Trump administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency: They need help, and they need it now.

“In a matter of minutes, homes were damaged, businesses were disrupted, roads were blocked, power was knocked out and families saw the places they call home transformed,” said Jada Curry, mayor of the Village of Lynwood…
