Sheriff sues Illinois woman for defamation in ICE detention claim

CHICAGO (WGN) — A Wisconsin sheriff is now suing a Skokie woman and a Cook County politician for defamation after she claimed she was held at an out-of-state jail after being detained by immigration enforcement officials.

The sister of Sundas Naqvi and Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison held a press conference in March, where Naqvi’s sister claimed Sundas was detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport while returning from a trip to Turkey, then taken to Dodge County Jail in Wisconsin despite being a US citizen.
