Two arrested in Carbondale phone scam targeting bank accounts; more suspects sought

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Two people have been arrested in connection with a deceptive practices investigation in Carbondale involving a phone scam targeting multiple victims.

Carbondale police said officers responded around 5:05 p.m. April 17 to the 1100 block of East Main Street. Investigators determined three suspects, posing as employees of a financial institution, contacted victims by phone and persuaded them to provide personal financial information, which was then used to access accounts and steal money.
