CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The City of Cincinnati Department of Buildings & Inspections has launched a first-of-its-kind training academy to address a critical shortage of building inspectors, bringing the department from roughly half its needed staff to a projected 95% capacity by spring 2027.
“You can’t accomplish what the community needs while you’re at that level of staffing,” said Art Dahlgren, director of the Department of Buildings & Inspections.
From depleted to 95% staffing
Dahlgren said three years ago the city had about half the building inspectors it needed, driven in part by generational workforce shifts.
