University of Cincinnati to study groundwater along Great Miami River

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Researchers at the University of Cincinnati are digging wells to see how PFA’s — known as “forever chemicals” — get into our water supply.

The university’s Department of Geosciences is working with the EPA and others to study groundwater along the Great Miami River. This is a water source for more than 2 million Ohioans.

The study will look at how these toxins get into our underground aquifers from distant sources.

Last month, the Biden administration set the first-ever national limits for PFA’s in drinking water . The day before this announcement, the CDC shared that nursing mothers can unknowingly expose their babies to PFA’s through breastmilk.

Locally, the community of Phillipsburg has been fighting to remove these forever chemicals from their water supply , which has been found through water testing for the last few years.
