Fifth-grader faces charges in NKY as schools deal with spree of social media threats

Students at different Cincinnati-area school districts are facing criminal charges after threats were made on social media toward local schools, according to school officials.

School districts in Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio were placed on high alert Wednesday, with at least one closing in response to security concerns.

Summit View Academy in Independence will have an increased police presence on Wednesday as a precautionary measure after social media posts raised concerns, Principal Jason Loreaux wrote in a letter to parents.

“The posts contain messages stating not to go to SVA tomorrow because the school is next. Many of these posts have been reposted by students,” Loreaux wrote. “Please discuss with your child the importance of being a responsible digital citizen and reporting this information to adults.”

A fifth-grader was identified as the person who posted the threat on social media, Independence Police Captain Mike Brock told Enquirer media partner Fox19 , adding the child is facing terroristic threatening charges and that they are not a student at Summit View.
