TriHealth nurse shares colon cancer scare, urges early screening

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – As colleagues and friends continue to remember Local 12 medical reporter Liz Bonis, who died last week after battling colon cancer, local health professionals are urging people to spread the word that the disease is preventable and can be treated.

Angela Neidich, a gastroenterology nurse with TriHealth, said she had a health scare six years ago after experiencing severe pain in her rectum — something she initially dismissed.

A friend at work encouraged her to get checked out, and a few months later she had a colonoscopy.

“So, I finally did the colonoscopy, and they removed a large precancerous polyp. And I had no family history of that. So, it really scared me because I was like, you know, if I would have waited, the outcome would have been way different,” Neidich said…
