CLARKSVILLE – The Army’s Fort Campbell certainly isn’t a top-secret installation. It sprawls across 105,000 acres of Tennessee and Kentucky, butts up against Clarksville and affects the region in myriad ways.
As of this spring, Fort Campbell boasts a new influence on the community — tourism.
That’s because of the long-awaited opening of the Wings of Liberty Museum, an attraction 30 years in the making. It is open to the public, and it details the training, exploits and sacrifices of the units that call Fort Campbell home.
More than 24,000 people visited the museum in its first two months. At 51,000 square feet, it is five times the size of its predecessor, the Don Pratt Museum, which was inside Fort Campbell’s gates and therefore a logistical challenge for civilians to visit…
