3-Year-Old Pegram Boy Found Dead in Van

A Pegram family is mourning after a 3-year-old boy was found dead inside an inoperable vehicle on the family’s property on Navaho Trail on Aug. 11 in what local officials called a “very tragic accident.”

Cheatham County Emergency Medical Services, the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office and the Pegram Fire Department responded to the scene. Before first responders arrived, a family member found the child in a non-working van and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Emergency medical technicians and firefighters continued the effort after arriving but were unable to revive him.

Lt. Shannon Heflin of the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference at the scene Tuesday afternoon, telling reporters deputies were dispatched around 4 p.m. amid reports of a missing child. A relative and the children present had allegedly laid down for a nap around 1 p.m., Heflin said.
