CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A mother and stepfather in Cheatham County are accused of leaving their 18-year-old son, who has autism, alone in a hot shed for days.
Amanda Sewell and Brandon Cox are both charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult. According to the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office, Sewell brought her son — who was living in the shed — a small air conditioning unit last week, but the power to it had been cut off twice, with the longest stretch without power lasting three days.
“A lot of autistic families feel like they’re on an island,” said Brad Meshell. “They do, and they feel that there is nobody that will help them. They feel like they’ve been discarded.”
