97 MPH Midnight Chase In Polk County Ends In Crash And Publix Arrest For Tampa Man

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 37-year-old Tampa man is in custody after a midnight traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase and a foot pursuit ending at a Lake Wales Publix.

It started early Sunday, June 14th. Around 12:47 a.m., a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted a black Toyota traveling roughly 97 mph on State Road 60 near Lake Wales. The deputy managed to pull the car over. But as the deputy walked up to the vehicle, the driver hit the gas and sped away.

Deputies immediately went after the car. The pursuit ended quickly when the driver lost control of the Toyota and crashed on Carver Street inside the city limits. The man then jumped out of the wrecked car and took off running…
