Heat index tops 100 degrees in Tampa Bay, roofers take extra precautions

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — As feels-like temperatures across the Tampa Bay area climb over 100 degrees, a local roofing company is taking extra measures to keep workers safe.

“Heat stroke, we’re always having to monitor for that,” said Ryan Westfall, president of Westfall Roofing.

Westfall said they’re watching for workers who are red in the face and sweaty, hoping to stave off heat exhaustion and heat stroke while working in the sun.

“Keep an eye on your guys,” he said. “We do have our supervisors out there and if they see somebody is not doing too well on the job, like they look like they’re having a tough time, we get them off the roof.”…
