‘Like a missile hit’: Lightning strikes Clearwater family’s home, sets attic on fire

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A family has been temporarily displaced after lightning struck the roof of their Clearwater home Thursday and sparked a fire in the attic.

A spokesperson for Clearwater Fire and Rescue said firefighters got a 911 call from a woman at the home off Temple Street around 3:30 p.m., saying her house had just been struck by lightning.

Sarah Nunn told 8 On Your Side she was getting ready in the restroom when she heard a loud boom, and the house began to shake.

“It was literally like a missile hit my house,” she said. “It blew a whole chunk of my bathroom up against the wall, flew right by my head, being lodged in the wall that was on fire.”

Nunn and her two young daughters got out of the home unscathed before firefighters arrived…
