ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg transportation department has enhanced the crosswalk signals behind St. Pete High School after a student was struck by a car and critically injured while walking across busy Ninth Avenue North in late May.
“We heard a lot of concerns from the community, the neighborhoods, the school district and others, just asking what we could do to enhance visibility as a short-term measure,” said Transportation Manager Chery Stacks. “Kind of get it ready to go before school starts.”
Stacks said crews installed double the amount of flashing lights, enhanced the lights color and moved all the signage up higher on the poles to make them more visible for drivers…
