Pinellas County commissioners pass budget with lower property tax rate

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday approved the budget fiscal year 2025, which includes a lower property tax rate.

The $4.3 billion budget that was approved reduces the general fund property tax millage rate for the third time in four years. Ten of the 23 millage rates were reduced, including the Countywide Emergency Medical Services millage.

The budget consists of $3.3 billion for services and operations, and $1 billion for capital improvement projects, according to a news release from the county.

The county said the budget goals include strong support for the sheriff’s office, 911 services, emergency medical response services, maintenance of roads, bridges and transportation, beach nourishment and affordable housing.

The county budget accounts for about one-third of property tax bills for residents, the county said. The remaining portion comes from schools, municipalities, and the transit authority, which are not under the scope of the county commissioners.
