Superintendent To Retire, Seeks Rehire

The Lakewood Board of Education is considering an agreement that would allow Superintendent Maggie Niedzwiecki to retire and immediately return to her superintendent position.

At its meeting on Monday, the Board approved Superintendent Niedzwiecki’s request to resign for the purpose of retirement. Ohio law requires a public meeting before a retired employee may be rehired by the same public employer. The Board will hold that meeting on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the Taft Center for Innovation (13701 Lake Ave.) to consider Superintendent Niedzwiecki’s potential re-employment.

Superintendent Niedzwiecki became eligible to retire through the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) of Ohio in July 2025. She has made the personal financial decision to begin collecting her pension benefits.
