(WJW) – It is now officially summer, but the National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement telling swimmers to stay out of parts of Lake Erie due to a “high risk of rip currents.”
According to the weather service, the beach hazard statement applies to beaches along Erie, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, Ottawa and Ashtabula counties in Ohio. The warning is in effect at least through Monday evening.

The statement coincides with rainy and overcast weather, according to the FOX 8 meteorological team. The forecast calls for below-average temperatures through the week.
“Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake,” the weather service wrote in its alert. “Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.”…
