CLEVELAND, Ohio — Automated license plate readers have created an extensive surveillance network across Northeast Ohio.
A review of federal court filings and police records found at least 1,717 cameras operating in Cuyahoga County. Most are supplied by Flock Safety, and 51 of the county’s 59 municipalities use them. Mounted on poles, buildings and roadways, the cameras photograph passing vehicles around the clock and allow police to search those images later.
