Ways to avoid explosive diarrhea parasite

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic are urging Northeast Ohioans to take extra precautions with fresh fruits and vegetables as cases of a foodborne illness continue to rise across the state.

“It’s from contaminated produce,” said Dr. Neha Vyas with the Cleveland Clinic.

The warning comes as health officials report a spike in cases of cyclospora, a parasite that causes an intestinal infection.

“It’s transmitted physically and orally through contaminated produce,” Vyas explained. “There have also been some reports of transmission through contaminated swimming pools.”…
