Deacon speaks after brutal assault; prays for attacker

CLEVELAND — A local church deacon just opened up to the I-Team, telling his story of survival after getting attacked inside the church.

Deacon Ron Kisner was just recently released from a rehabilitation center. He has spent the last three months recovering from the vicious attack. Earlier this week, he met with the I-Team along with his pastor, the Rev. Theophilus Caviness, a well-known Cleveland religious leader.

“I am grateful I survived,” Kisner said. “And the only other thing I remember right after it happened was consciously thinking this could be the struggle of my life.”

In March, Kisner was attacked and nearly murdered inside the Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church. Kisner saw a stranger choking a man just outside the church. He tried to help. The attacker, however, ended up assaulting Kisner…
