WESTLAKE, Ohio – A garbage truck driver called the Westlake Police Department at 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 21 to report that his truck had struck an Ohio Department of Transportation bridge over I-90 eastbound at Clague Road.
Part of the garbage truck was knocked off the vehicle and was sitting on the highway. Officers blocked lanes as the crash was investigated. The driver of the garbage collection truck had accidentally left the dumpster arms up and above the cab of the truck as it traveled on the highway. The deployed garbage dumpster struck the bridge, according to a statement from the police department.
Another vehicle struck the broken dumpster after the collision with the bridge. An entrance ramp and lanes of the highway were closed for about an hour and a half as crews cleaned up the scene and ODOT inspected the bridge. Inspectors determined the bridge remained structurally sound…
