CMSD initiative building brighter futures for children by teaming with families, community: C. Jay Matthews

CLEVELAND — Every generation is remembered not simply for the challenges it faced, but for the choices it made on behalf of its children.

This month, students across Cleveland walked through the doors of schools that represent more than new buildings or new assignments. They entered newly united school communities created through the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Building Brighter Futures Plan, a thoughtful effort to strengthen educational opportunities by bringing together students, educators, families, traditions, and neighborhoods around a common purpose.

As a pastor and a longtime community partner, I have had the privilege of walking alongside the Cleveland Metropolitan School District for many years. Through our congregation and community partnerships, we have celebrated students’ successes, encouraged families during difficult seasons, partnered with educators, and prayed continually for the safety, well-being, and future of Cleveland’s children.

This work has always been about strengthening and building safe communities…
