Grand jury indicts man accused of arson that destroyed historic Cleveland church

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Cuyahoga County Grand Jury indicted a 19-year-old man accused of setting the fire that destroyed an historic Cleveland church.

John Patrick McManamon was indicted on:

  • Two counts of aggravated arson
  • One count of desecration
  • One count of disrupting public service
  • One count of breaking and entering

According to the arrest warrant, just before midnight on Aug. 20, surveillance cameras caught a car driven by McManamon traveling to the abandoned Friendship Baptist Church in the 5600 block of Central Ave.

McManamon and two friends parked on East 57th Street behind the church and entered the church to engage in a social media trend, “Urban Mining,” the warrant said…
