VIDEO: Sinkhole on Cleveland street nearly swallows car

CLEVELAND (WJW) — FOX 8 News was at the scene of a sinkhole that opened up at a residential intersection on Cleveland’s west side, nearly swallowing a car.

It happened at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, at the intersection of West 128th Street and Belden Avenue, authorities told FOX 8 News.

Emergency crews closed the intersection soon after, and yellow caution tape could be seen cordoning off the scene. Cleveland Water crews were also on scene Thursday afternoon.

The driver whose car could be seen trapped over the sinkhole said she came into the intersection and immediately felt the ground give way, a Cleveland police spokesperson told FOX 8 News on Thursday afternoon.

The driver was able to get out of the car safely and was not injured.

A tow truck arrived on scene just before 4:30 p.m. and towed the car away.
