Mayfield Heights City Council had a special visit by the Cleveland Clinic during their April 13 meeting in which several of the city’s firefighters were recognized for their efforts responding to a recent medical emergency.
Jim McGrath, one of the EMS coordinators with Cleveland Clinic’s Hillcrest Hospital, told council members that they were awarding the Cleveland Clinic Cardiac Care Challenge coin and plaque to firefighter paramedics, Bill Madan, Kevin Costantino, Alex Brockway, Lance Powers, Lt. Jeff Lanhan, Lt. T.J. Zimmerman and Capt. Mark Palumbo, for their life saving actions.
“They responded to a critical medical emergency involving an unresponsive individual,” McGrath addressed council about the February incident. “The patient’s daughter was actively performing CPR. The crew transitioned from bystander assisted CPR to advanced life support interventions… including advanced airway management, mechanical chest compressions, defibrillations, and drug therapy…
