TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – Teller County leaders have warned that Memorial Day weekend celebrations are becoming dangerous in forest areas and are a growing concern.
Teller County officials said the county remains under stage two fire restrictions, which means campfires, charcoal fires, fireworks and most forms of outdoor burning are now prohibited across the county.
The Teller County Sheriff’s Office said deputies have responded to calls involving reckless driving, illegal fires and unsafe shooting activity in remote forest areas.
“We had complaints that people were coming out of the Forest Service, blaring loud music, doing donuts or 360s in people’s roads and driveways and shooting off AR-15s in the air,” Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell said. “It was creating a safety hazard for everyone.”…
