On May 30, a mountain biker was killed in a crash with a Jeep Wrangler on Rampart Range Road in the area of Colorado Springs.
Per a report from KOAA, the cyclist has been identified as 55-year-old Robert Lucas with the fatal crash taking place at about 6 p.m. in the area of mile marker 7. Lucas was headed southbound on the gravel road, with Colorado State Patrol reporting he was in the opposite lane of traffic. When the northbound Jeep approached, Lucas attempted to brake, losing control and rolling to collide with the Jeep’s front left tire. He was ejected from the bike and pronounced deceased at the scene.
In days following the tragic crash, Robert Lucas has been mourned by the mountain biking community, remembered as a skilled cyclist, lover of wildlife, and a talented photographer.
