Rain showers and storms during the afternoon

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Today across southern Colorado, we’ll see a setup very similar to yesterday as another upper-level disturbance moves through the atmosphere. This disturbance will provide the lift needed to tap into the available surface moisture, leading to the development of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The deepest moisture will remain pooled across the eastern plains, which is why those areas are at risk of gusty winds and hail.

In terms of sky conditions, a few early morning showers will gradually dissipate, allowing for a mix of sunshine and clouds through the morning. After lunchtime, clouds will begin to build, with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. The best opportunity for showers around the Pikes Peak region will be during the early afternoon before activity gradually decreases through the evening. Across the eastern plains, however, the late afternoon into the evening will be the prime time for storms. Gusty winds and hail will be the primary threats with the strongest storms.

High temperatures will reach the mid 80s in Colorado Springs and the lower 90s in Pueblo, while many other areas will be a few degrees cooler than yesterday. It will still be a warm day, but the combination of slightly lower temperatures and afternoon rain chances will make temps feel much more manageable. Overnight lows will fall into the 50s…
