Colorado Springs Mayor, Council Members at odds over proposal to separate from regional 911 authority

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Some Colorado Springs City Council members are pushing back against a proposal from the mayor, police and fire leadership to separate from the region’s current 911 authority, saying funding concerns should be addressed within the existing system before pursuing a structural change.

This comes after Colorado Springs’ Mayor, police chief, fire chief and other city leaders announced a proposal to separate from from the El Paso-Teller County 911 authority (EPTC) last month, citing concerns of 911 surcharges paid by city residents going toward emergency response communication outside the city.
