DENVER (KDVR) – A quick response by fire crews kept a vegetation fire from reaching nearby homes that officials say were initially threatened on Wednesday evening.
According to South Metro Fire Rescue, crews responded just before 6 p.m. to 6544 Village Road, along with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, for a vegetation fire.

Within 10 minutes of the initial response, the call was upgraded to a second alarm brush fire, and crews said it had threatened multiple homes in the area. By about 6:45 p.m., the fire was deemed to be under control and held at about two acres.
Firefighters were on the scene completing cleanup and extinguishing hotspots. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office OEM Helicopter made eight separate drops, with at least 50 personnel from other fire departments joining the effort.
