Members of the Front Range Passenger Rail District’s Board of Directors voted 14-1 to refer its Colorado Connector (CoCo) funding measure to the November ballot during an Aug. 28 meeting inside Pueblo County’s Transportation Technology Center (TTC).
The measure will ask Colorado voters to approve a 0.333% sales tax to expand passenger rail service to connect Front Range communities between Fort Collins and Pueblo. Funds are already in place to connect Fort Collins to Denver by 2029. An expansion to Colorado Springs and Pueblo would be completed by 2032 if voters approve the tax.
“It’s up to the voters in terms of whether they approve that or not,” Front Range Passenger Rail District Board Chair John Putnam told the Chieftain. “At this stage, under the state Fair Campaign Practices Act, we can’t advocate or oppose the tax measure… It will be up to a campaign. It will be up to voters to determine whether or not to pass the measure.”…
