(COLORADO SPRINGS) — After a significant cut in funding, Silver Key is asking for the community’s help to protect transportation for over 1,500 older adults who use the Reserve & Ride service in the Pikes Peak Region each year.
According to Silver Key, the organization is preparing for a funding reduction of around $36,000 per month at the beginning of January 2027, with an annual shortfall of $432,000. The funding loss will place additional pressure on a system already unable to meet demand, with over 5,000 ride requests that Silver Key could not accommodate within the past year.
Reserve and Ride provides older adults with support to get to important medical appointments, grocery store visits, community activities, and places of worship, as well as other destinations that help them stay healthy, connected, and independent. The rides largely assist those whose mobility needs may require more help than a traditional ride.
