COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) confirms that its winter energy-wise rates begin today, Oct. 1, and will be in effect through the end of May 2027.
Winter energy-wise rates have the following on- and off-peak times, according to CSU:
- Off-peak (lowest-cost hours): Weekdays before 5 p.m. and after 9 p.m., and all day on weekends and most holidays.
- On-peak (highest-cost hours): Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
CSU says this means the following for electric bills:
- The winter on-peak rate decreases by nearly 50%.
- Summer on-peak rate: approximately $0.29 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
- Winter on-peak rate: approximately $0.15 per kWh.
- The off-peak electric rate remains the same year-round.
- Off-peak rate: approximately $0.07 per kWh.
Officials say residential Energy Wise customers can expect to pay 5% less on average during winter months.
CSU encourages customers to do the following to save money:
- Do laundry at the right time: Run washers and dryers on weekends or other off-peak times. For extra savings, skip the dryer and hang clothes to dry.
- Hit delay on the dishes: Many dishwashers come with a “delay” button. Delay the dishes past 9 p.m. on weekdays to take advantage of cheaper electric rates.
- Charge EVs off-peak: Prioritize charging during off-peak hours to maximize savings.
