‘It’s not something that we take lightly’: Colorado Springs Fire Department seeks harsher penalties on high fire danger days

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – While it’s been a good week for moisture across the Pikes Peak region, firefighters are looking ahead and preparing for the worst.

“We dry out very quickly,” Kris Cooper, the fire marshal with the Colorado Springs Fire Department, said. “We haven’t had enough sustaining moisture to really soak the ground.”

Cooper said the rain we’ve seen lately will help in the short term, but looking ahead, he said CSFD wants to put out a very clear message to the community…
