(COLORADO SPRINGS) — One week after Governor Jared Polis signed a law banning retail pet stores in Colorado from selling dogs or cats, a local pet shop owner says it will put him out of business.
Dustin Haworth is a third-generation owner of Pet City in Colorado Springs, which is located inside the Chapel Hills Mall. He says puppy sales make up 80% of his business, along with another 10% coming from the supplies new pet owners typically buy when they take home a dog.
He says without selling puppies, “I would not be able to afford the staff or the rent.”…
