Jury finds Parker detective omitted evidence to arrest man for accessory to murder; jurors award him $24 million

PARKER, Colo. — A Douglas County jury has ordered the Town of Parker to pay more than $24 million to a New Jersey man in what attorneys say is the largest civil rights verdict in Colorado history.

A jury found former Parker Police Detective Shannon Brukbacher liable for malicious prosecution and unlawful seizure, which is in violation of the Colorado Constitution. The jury also found that Brukbacher wrongfully arrested Robert Dial for accessory to murder and tampering with evidence because she was agitated that he had hired a lawyer for his son.

In February 2022, Dial’s adult son, Cameron, shot two of his roommates at his Parker apartment and called his father for help, the lawsuit says. Dial was in New Jersey at the time…
