K9 Boomer retires after years of service to Fountain schools and community

(FOUNTAIN, Colo.) — A round of ap[paws] for Fountain Police Department’s (FPD) K9 Boomer, who has earned the “distinguished honor of retirement” after serving the Fountain community and area schools for several years.

Boomer is a School Resource Officer (SRO) K9, whose handler, Sergeant Melissa Warden, has officially adopted, according to FPD. K9 Boomer has faithfully served the students and staff of Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 (FFC8) since 2022.

“Boomer has been an invaluable partner, protecting our schools, supporting our officers, and building strong connections with the students and residents he served,” a post read on the City of Fountain Government’s Facebook page. “His dedication, loyalty, and steady presence have made a lasting impact on everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside him.”

K9 Boomer will begin his next chapter at home, alongside FPD Sgt. Warden.

“Their bond has always been remarkable, and we’re grateful Boomer will enjoy a well‑deserved, comfortable retirement surrounded by the love and care he knows best,” the post read…
