Families invited to free ‘Get Outdoors Day’ June 6 at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs

Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department, and Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance will cohost the free annual Get Outdoors Day family recreation festival June 6 at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs, with more than 3,000 people expected to attend.

The event runs 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Prospect Lake. Colorado Parks and Wildlife will give free fishing poles, bait, and instructions to the first 650 children ages 15 and under who attend.

The festival, which dates to 2016, offers families the chance to try archery, paddleboarding, fly fishing, a climbing wall, a “Touch a truck” zone, a dunk tank, and more. Visitors will receive a passport to get stamped at vendor booths; completed passports entered into a drawing for outdoor gear.

“Get Outdoors Day is a great opportunity for the whole family to learn about recreational activities in the Pikes Peak Region with the opportunity to try several of them at no cost,” said Travis Sauder, Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Assistant Area Wildlife Manager for the Pikes Peak region. “We hope everyone will join us for a fun day outside.”…
